Other Info

Groot posed as Divine Majesty King Groot the 23rd, Monarch of Planet X. He is a member of the Flora Colossus--a society of sentient trees, discovered by the Kree. (To learn about the above highlighted place and/or races, click on their names above.)

Groot first appearance on Earth was in search of humans that he wished to capture and bring back to his world as test subjects. As Groot waited in the woods outside a nearby community, he grew larger as he absorbed wooden objects into his body. The humans tried to resist; however, no fire or gunfire could penetrate Groot's hide. Over the next few days, Groot used his ability to control trees and plants to turn the forest into a make-shift army. However, it was a scientist named Leslie Evans who ended up using a specially bred colony of termites against Groot. The termites ate through Groot's hide and they appeared to have destroyed Groot. (Groot during his invasion on Earth is shown in the third picture posted.)

Later, however, Groot was seen alive in the Collector's "zoo" of giant monsters in Canada. (The "zoo" held such esteemed inmates as Fin Fang Foom, Gargantus, Grogg, and Rommbu, among others.) At one point, while the Collecter was away though, the Mole Man, invaded the Collector's lair and set the monsters free. The stampede of monsters eventually arrived in New York where they were engaged and defeated by the Thing, Hulk, Beast, and Giant-Man (Henry Pym). Later on, Groot was being tracked down by a unit of the Howling Commandos of Area 13 (a branch of S.H.I.E.L.D. dedicated to tackling supernatural threats). Groot had hid and blended into the surrounding woodland; however, he was found by Sasquatch's sense of smell. The unit (also including Gorilla Man and Warwolf) disoriented Groot with high-pitch sonics and brought him down. Once he was brought back to Area 13, Gorilla Man informed Groot of his options: either join Area 13 as part of the the solution, or be imprisoned as part of the problem. Eventually realizing that Area 13 would just catch up to him again if he escaped, Groot offered to assist the Commandos. (Click on the highlighted teams and/or characters above to learn more about them.)

At one point, Groot returned to space. At his point, he began to change his ways and became a force for good. Unfortunately, at one point, he found himself in Kree space and he was quickly captured and imprisoned. It was during his time in jail, that he formed a rapport with Rocket Raccoon. He was then assigned to a covert ops team lead by Star-Lord, whose goal was to defeat the Phalanx (an evil alien race bent on world conquering). Groot and Star-Lord eventually did defeat the Phalanx; however, Groot sacrificed his life to buy his team time to escape. Most of his body was destroyed, except for a small twig of him. It was Rocket Raccoon who took the sprig offshoot of Groot and planted it in a pot. This actually allowed Groot to begin to re-grow. (Click the characters and/or race's highlighted names above to learn more about them.)

Later, restored to full size, Groot joined Star-Lord's new proactive peacekeeping team known as the Guardians of the Galaxy. During his time with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot faced off against many threats, such as the Badoons, the Negative Zone forces, and Blastaar. (To learn about the highlighted team, race, place, and/or character above, just click on their highlighted names.)

Groot played a pivotal part in the War of Kings--a war between he Shi'ar and the Inhumans/Kree. At the end of the war, the Inhuman King of the Kree, Blackbolt, detonated the Terrigen-Bomb which punched a hole in space/time known as The Fault--a doorway to a universe analogous to our own where there is no death (aka the Cancerverse). The first creature to come through was a giant squid that instinctively attacked the Inhuman city of Attilan. It was Groot that came up with the idea for a weapon to use on the giant creature. Together with the Inhuman prince, Maximus, Groot developed a Feedback Loop, which uncreated the creature's reality and reimposed their own thus unmaking the squid creature as well. However, after saving Attilan, the team had to face the Fault itself. The Many-Angled Ones (rulers of the Cancerverse) sent one of their agents, Magus (Adam Warlock), to attack them. Groot tried to help, but Magus was far too powerful and blew apart one of Groot's arms when he tried to attack; however, he was able to grow it back quickly. Ultimately, The Fault was stopped from expanding and Magus was defeated. However, many were killed during the battle, including Star-Lord and Mantis. After the War of Kings, the Guardians of the Galaxy were disbanded and Groot was forced to return to Planet X. It was then that it was revealed that Groot was not the true monarch of the planet but was one of the younger members of his race. For pretending he was their ruler, Groot was sent into exile to on an island far off the planet. He remained their until Rocket Racoon staged a rescue. It took much difficulty, but the two escaped the island.

Soon after, Groot and Rocket Raccoon found themselves caught in the Mojoverse run by the inter-dimensional TV producer known as Mojo. (Mojo used this dimension to host "television shows" by capturing heroes and pitting them against monsters, robots, etc.) Mojo decided to use Groot and Rocket Raccoon in his latest reality television show. And if their "show" got cancelled, they would die in the process. Fortunately, the two found a way to escape. (To learn about Mojo and/or the Mojoverse, just click on the highlighted names above.)

More recently, Groot, and a recreated Guardians of the Galaxy team, learned that Thanos had managed to get a Cosmic Cube from the United States Army and used it to escape to Moord--the homeland of the Badoon. Therefore, the team went to the Avengers Tower and informed the Avengers about the situation. So, the two teams joined forces to battle against Thanos and the Badoon. However, after Thanos had apparently killed the Elders of the Universe, he became one with the Cosmic Cube and killed the Avengers as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy. But, in reality, they had just been sent to the Cancerverse along the Elders of the Universe. Once there, Iron Man (Tony Stark) found that Thanos' weapon wasn't actually a Cosmic Cube--it had defects. Therefore, they bargained with the Collector, in exchange of a weapon capable of deactivating the "Cube" and returned to Earth. Back on Earth, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, along with the Elders of the Universe, defeated Thanos. The Elders then took Thanos to punish him for his actions. Interesting Note: Groot’s only spoken words are "I am Groot." It was Maximus of the Inhumans who theorized that Groot was really speaking in a clear dialect, but his larynx and vocal cords are too stiff and inflexible; thus, making it difficult for others to understand.

  1. Very cool. I like how he decided to be good in the long run, rather than just staying bad or only pretending to be good forever. I'm excited to see him in the movie! =)
