Other Info
During World War II, Baron von Strucker created an organization known as HYDRA. He divided HYDRA into two branches: the Secret Empire and Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.). As the scientific research division, A.I.M.'s purpose was to design weapons for HYRDA. (To learn about HYDRA, click on their highlighted name above.)

In the late 1960’s, A.I.M. seceded from HYDRA because of political differences and began independent operations. A.I.M. first came to public attention when it was incorporated as an international cartel dealing with the development and marketing of new technological products. It supplied hardware and weapons to governmental and quasi-governmental agencies. Some time after this, Colonel Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. exposed A.I.M. to be a subversive organization. Although S.H.I.E.L.D believed it had put an end to A.I.M.'s operation, much of the organization's membership escaped capture. Since then, all of A.I.M.’s activities have been covert. (Click on the highlighted names above to learn about Nick Fury and/or S.H.I.E.L.D.)

A.I.M. has been involved in the creation of three major instruments of deadly potential. The first is the Super-Adaptoid, an android capable of duplicating any super power. The second instrument was the Cosmic Cube, an unimaginably powerful object capable of restructuring reality itself. The third major achievement of A.I.M. is the creation of M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing), an artificially mutated human being with an enormous head and a stunted body possessing superhuman intelligence and the ability to generate mental energy bolts and forcefields. (Click on the highlighted names above to learn about the objects, projects, and/or characters.)

Later on, when Baron von Strucker seemingly perished in the destruction of HYDRA Island, A.I.M. (now led by M.O.D.O.K.) broke all ties with the Secret Empire and HYDRA. The organization eventually succeeded in overthrowing the government of the Caribbean island-nation of Boca Caliente, rechristening it “A.I.M. Island." (To learn about HYDRA Island, click on the highlighted name above. Also, M.O.D.O.K. with his A.I.M. agents is shown in the fourth picture posted above.)

When M.O.D.O.K. took over A.I.M., two different splinter groups of escaped A.I.M. agents emerged. One group often clashed with M.O.D.O.K.'s A.I.M. while the other unsuccessfully attempted to create another active Cosmic Cube. At one point, dissension with M.O.D.O.K.'s rule grew within his own A.I.M. organization which resulted in a rebellion against him. Thus, forcing M.O.D.O.K. out of the organization. After this, the three factions of A.I.M. have again combined as one organization

In it's history, A.I.M. has been involved with many superheroes/villains lives. Some of the more notable interactions are when A.I.M. sent a chemical android to dispose of both Captain America and Nick Fury. They were the organization that captured Iron Man and tried and reproduce his famous armor. A.I.M. was responsible for infecting Betty Ross with gamma radiation and turning her into the "Harpy." In fact, for a short time, a power shift in A.I.M. resulted in the faction splitting into two groups: the "Blue" faction and the "Yellow" Faction. These two factions did battle, even dragging Deathbird into the fray. The Yellow faction captured Thing and Namor for study, while the Blue faction tried to re-create the Cosmic Cube. But currently neither faction stayed active and A.I.M. has become one unit again. At one point, A.I.M.hired the AnacondaCottonmouth and Death Adder of the Serpent Society to kill M.O.D.O.K., which they were successful. In addition, A.I.M. helped in creating the Red Hulk. (To learn about all the above highlighted characters, just click on their names. Note: Beware of the very revealing outfit worn by Betty Ross, Deathbird, and the Serpent Society's bio pages.)

More recently, after the S.H.I.E.L.D. Secret Avengers recruited Taskmaster after freeing him from Bagalia, they send him to infiltrate the new High Council of A.I.M. which consists of Andrew Forson, Graviton, Jude the Entropic Man, Mentallo, Superia, and Black Widow (Yelena Belova). After this, Forson led A.I.M. into attending a weapons expo which resulted in A.I.M. fighting against the Secret Avengers. (Click on the highlighted names above to learna about the team and/or characters. Note: Beware of the revealing outfit worn by Black Widwon on her bio page.)

  1. Too bad they didn't somehow work MODOK or Baron VonStrucker into the Iron Man 3 movie. Mostly MODOK- I'd like to see how they would make the floating head thing fit in the movies ;-)
