Other Info
The Morlocks are a large community of mutants founded by the mutant Callisto who discovered "The Alley" (a tunnel that runs the length of Manhattan, and is the center of a network of tunnels built in the 1950's by the U.S.government in case of a nuclear war). It is part of a tunnel system which extends into New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York. The vast majority of the public has no idea these tunnels exist. Callisto first found the mutant Caliban who had the power to psionically locate other mutants. The two, together, located and gathered together many other mutants who had run away from human society because of their abnormal external physical changes due to their mutations. The first ones they found were Sunder and Masque. Callisto decided to call the team "Morlocks" after the subterranean creatures found in H. G. Wells's book, The Time Machine. (To learn about the characters above, just click on their highlighted names. Note: Beware of the very revealing outfit worn by Callisto on her bio page.)

At one point, the Morlocks kidnapped Angel (intending to make him Callisto's mate). However, the X-Men realized they could not rescue Angel without ruling over the numerous Morlocks. So, Storm challenged Callisto to a duel--the prize was leadership of the Morlocks. To the Morlock's surprise, Storm defeated Callisto in hand-to-hand combat. Therefore, Storm rescued Angel and became the de facto leader of the Morlocks. However, Storm did not stay underground with the Morlocks, so Callisto remained as the unofficial leader to make sure that law and order was upheld in Storm's absence. With Storm as the official leader of the Morlocks, an alliance between the Morlocks and the X-Men resulted. Therefore, Professor Xavier offered to help resettle the Morlocks on the surface; however, they declined because they felt the tunnels were the right place for them. (Click on the highlighted name above to learn about Professor X.)

One day, the unthinkable happened, a group of mercenaries named the Marauders who had been hired by Mister Sinister and led by Gambit broke into the Morlock's tunnels and began to exterminate them. (It was later revealed that many of the Morlocks were actually failed experiments of the Dark Beast, which is why Mister Sinister wanted to destroy them, seeing his handiwork in them.) As this Mutant Massacre continued, many superheroes showed up to protect the Morlocks including the X-Men, X-Factor, Power Pack, and Thor. When Gambit realized he had been misled about the mission, he too help defend and save the Morlocks. However, even with all their help, most of the Morlocks were killed. But, luckily, some were able to escape. (Click on the highlighted names above to learn about the teams, characters, and/or events. Note: Beware of the form-fitting outfit worn by one the Marauders' bio page.)

After the Massacre, the remaining Morlocks split off into different groups and places. Some returned to the the Alley to be led by Masque. Later, some were transported by Mikhail Rasputin to another dimension dubbed "The Hill." Once there, Rasputin set up what he called the "Gene Nation," who attacked humans on Earth to "get even" with what happened to them during the Mutant Massacre. One such Morlock was Marrow. Eventually, that was stopped when Storm confronted Marrow in battle. Other survivors of the Mutant Massacre became wards of Generation X like Leech and Artie. (To learn about the above highlighted characters and/or team, just click on their names.)

Later, when the events of M-Day occurred, most of the Morlocks lost their powers. During an interview, Marrow reported that the de-powered Morlocks now look like humans; however, they are still afraid about going out of the tunnels. Some of the Morlocks who retained their powers, sought refugee at the Xavier Institute and became part of the 198. But, the few that remained in the tunnel were under Marrow's protection. (Click the highlighted names above to learn about the event, team, and/or place. Note: Beware of the revealing outfits worn by some on the M-Day's bio page.)

Later on, some Morlocks reappeared under the leadership of Masque. They were determined to find Magneto. Using diaries that he believed told the future, Masque plagued humans and fought the X-Men. However, he was defeated with the help of Masque's own teammate Skids (who was secretly working for S.H.I.E.L.D.). (To learn about the characters and/or team highlighted above, just click on their names.)

More recently, another small group of Morlocks were discovered living in the sewers of Chicago, trying to escape the mutant-hunting Sentinels. (To learn about the Sentinels, click on their highlighted name above.)

In the film X2, "Morlocks" appear as a folder on William Stryker's computer files. (The team's name is shown in the second picture posted above.)

In the film X-Men: The Last Stand, a team of mutants dubbed "The Omegas" appear in the film. This team is kind of mix of the Morlocks and the Omega Gang. Two members of the movie's team are Callisto and Kid Omega/Quill. In the comics, Callisto is the Morlocks leader, and Kid Omega is the leader of the Omega Gang.

  1. Totally remember them from the old school cartoons, when Storm beat the leader and became their leader! It was epic =)
