Other Info
Moria Kinross was the daughter of a powerful Scottish nobleman. When she grew up, Moira married Royal Marine Commando Joseph MacTaggert. However, their marriage proved to be disastrous. While studying at college, Moira met and fell in love with Charles Xavier. These two became engaged, pending the annulment of Moira’s marriage; however, Xavier was drafted into military service. Moira promised to wait until he was released. But, while Xavier was recovering from battlefield injuries she broke off their engagement without explanation. (Click on Professor X's name to learn more about him.)

Later, while in New York City, Moira's husband, Joseph MacTaggert, beat and sexually assaulted her. This resulted in Moira being hospitalized for a week, and pregnant. From then on, Moira lived apart from her husband (he refused to grant her a divorce) and she kept the fact that he had a son secret from him for twenty years.

Moira forged a brilliant career as a leading geneticist, earning a Nobel Prize, and founded a Mutant Research Center on Muir Island off the coast of Scotland. After renewing contact with Xavier, they discussed the possibility of establishing a school for training mutants. Moira became Xavier’s silent partner in founding the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters and its’ first team of mutant students, the X-Men. (To learn about the above place, organization, and team, click on their names above.)

When Moira’s son, Kevin, began to manifest destructive superhuman mutant powers, she attempted to "cure" him; however, she couldn't "cure" him and she was forced to keep him imprisoned on the Island. Moira also came to take a young mutant Scottish girl named Rahne Sinclair as her ward, sending her to study at Xavier’s as a member of the New Mutants. (Click on the highlighted names to learn more about the characters and/or team.)

During Moria's affiliation with the X-Men, she eventually fell in love with Sean Cassidy (aka Banshee). (To learn about Banshee, just click on his name.)

After some time, Moira became the first human to contract the mutant-killing Legacy Virus. Affiliating herself with the British super-team Excalibur, she dedicated herself to finding a cure for the Virus and eventually found one. Unfortunately, just as she discovered the cure, the mutant terrorist Mystique and her Brotherhood of Mutants attacked Muir Island. In the destruction of her Research Center, Moira was mortally wounded. However, she clung on to life just long enough to contact Xavier, transfer the cure to him, and speak with him one last time. 1. I've always liked the name Moira. Of course she was played by Olivia Williams, who looks like a Moira. I think if I was a super hero, my mild-mannered pet-artist alter-ego would be named Moira.

  2. Hmm... not to sound mean or cold, but I wonder if she'll stay dead, because nobody else seems to. It's cool that she was able to do so much... but such a bummer her husband was such a loser.

  4. I agree with Karissa, shouldn't she be about due to be revived with some super powers? Everyone else gets powers at least once in Marvel.
