Other Info
After her father left the family, Ashely Kafka grew up with her mother and sister. Her mother was mentally ill and her sister, Norma, was mentally challenged. Ashely's sister was also born with severe facial defects. Always putting other people before herself, Ashley took care of her family--even at her young age. Ashley struggled to maintain the peace between her mother's outbursts, Norma's needs, in addition to all the housework. Later on, when Ashly was nineteen years old, her mother passed away. This meant that Norma was left at a psychiatric
hospital. However, soon after that, she too passed away.
Due to her negative childhood events, Ashley Kafka went on to study psychology at Empire State University. She continued her education and became a professional
psychologist. Throughout her professional life, Dr. Kafka helped and aided
such persons of note, as Spider-Man and Vermin. (To learn about the place and/or characters above, just click on their highlighted names above.)
Shortly after her successful treatment of Vermin, the government worked with Dr. Kafka to create the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane. Dr. Kafka was selected to run the facility along with Edward Whelan (the
recently reformed Vermin) as her assistant. Acting as head of security
was John Jameson, who Kafka had briefly dated for a time. Never willing to give up on patients, Kafka has tried to treat many notable super-villains over the years, including Carnage, Carrion, Jackal, Shriek, Electro, Vulture, and Doctor Octopus. At one point, Dr. Kafka's success rate came into question and was replaced for a time by Leonard Samson as director. However, after Samson left the facility, Kafka returned as the director once again. (To learn about Doc Samson, click on the highlighted name above.)
Later, during a breakout attempt from the Ravencroft Institute, a criminal named Massacre killed Dr. Kafka.
There is nothing there, but here is the Marvel.com bio link for Doctor Kafka, http://marvel.com/universe/Kafka,_Ashley.
Doctor Kafka appeared in the film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In this version, Doctor Kafka is portrayed as a villainous mad scientist at the Ravencroft Institute, which is controlled by Oscorp. In addition, the doctor is male in the movies, rather than a female in the comics.
I wonder why they changed the character's gender- it's not like it's hard to find a woman to play a scientist in a movie =P
