When Brian Banner was resurrected during the "Chaos War," Brian Banner gained the ability to turn into a hybrid replica of the Guilt Hulk and the Devil Hulk. In addition, Brian became as powerful as Bruce perceived him as being. While feared by his son, Brian was easily able to overpower the Hulk family and he shot green fire blasts. However, once he was not feared anymore by Bruce, he was quickly defeated.

As a child, Brian and his mother were physically and emotionally abused by his father. Regarding his father as a monster, and believing that he had inherited a "monster gene" from him, Brian promised himself that he would never have any children, for fear of bringing another Banner into the world.

In college, Brian met Rebecca, whom he fell in love with and later married. And after some time, Brian earned a PhD in physics and found a job in Los Alamos, New Mexico and worked for the U.S. government as a member of a project trying to develop a clean way to create nuclear energy.

Later, the stress of his job eventually led Brian to become an alcoholic and he began to develop anger problems. One day, while drunk on the job, Dr. Banner accidentally overloaded some machinery, causing an explosion that caused him to lose his job. Despite doctors saying that the explosion caused him no harm, Brian became convinced that the explosion in Los Alamos had affected him on the genetic level. Fearing it had altered his genetic structure, and due to his vow to never have children, Dr. Banner was horrified when he learned that Rebecca was pregnant with their son. Brian was convinced that his son, Bruce, would be some kind of a mutant. Instantly hating the baby Bruce (who he believed to be a monster created from both the radiation he was exposed to and the "monster gene"), Brian ignored him completely and attempted to keep Rebecca away from him as well. Early one Christmas morning, Brian woke up to Bruce having opened a present from his mother. The present was a complex model, which Bruce had easily put together despite his young age. This discovery convinced Brian that Bruce was definitely abnormal and different. So, he ended up beating up Bruce, and Rebecca when she came to her son's aid. Brian continued to be abusive for several years. Then one day, Rebecca attempted to escape with Bruce. When Brian found them packing up their belongings into their car, Brian again attacked Rebecca; however, this time, he accidentally killed her in his fit of rage while Bruce stood there and witnessed it all. Brian then threatened Bruce that if he testified against him in court that Bruce would be severely punished. Due to the Brian's threats, Bruce ended up lying in court and said that his father never abused him or his mother. Due to lack of evidence, Brian escaped conviction; however, he was later arrested when, after becoming drunk, boasted about how he beat the law by bullying his son. Brian was eventually convicted of manslaughter and put in a mental institution.

After fifteen years of confinement, the doctors believed that Brian was ready to rejoin society and he was released. Despite Bruce's reluctantly, Bruce eventually gave in and allowed his father to stay with him for a short amount of time. However, during this time, Brian began acting a bit strange. It was during this time that Brian also broke down and blurted out the fact that his father, Bruce's grandfather, had abused him too. Brian continued to act even stranger and stranger over time, and Bruce even mentioned that maybe he should check himself back in for more therapy.

One day, Brian and Bruce got into an argument. Bruce ended up calling him crazy and walked away. It being the anniversary of his mother's death, Bruce went to his mother's grave. Brian followed Bruce to Rebecca's grave and started harassing his son again and said how Bruce was an evil monster and how he was just trying to save mankind from a mutant and monster like Bruce. The two continued arguing until it led a physical confrontation. At one point in the scuffle, Bruce was on the ground and Brian was about to jump on him when Bruce pushed him back with his foot. This led to Brian stumbling backwards and cracking his neck on Rebecca's gravestone and dying.

After his death, Brian's ghost continued to haunt his son's alter-ego, the Hulk. Brian often appeared to taunt Bruce, stating that he was no better than him. Villains such as Mentallo, the Red Skull, the Devil Hulk, and the Guilt Hulk also used the image of Brian Banner against the Hulk, in an attempt to weaken him. Later, when Bruce Banner and the Hulk were fused back together after being separated on Counter-Earth, Bruce found himself in Hell, where he met his father. Brian terrorized the Hulk there. However, Bruce eventually had taken enough and stood up to Brian. Brian ended up getting beat up by Bruce, and then his son left him and returned to the normal world. Later, during the Chaos War, the Chaos King resurrected Brian and Rebecca Banner. In addition, he also gave the Brian Banner the ability to transform into a hybrid of the Guilt Hulk and the Devil Hulk. Now as this new "Hulk-like" monster, Brian fought against his son, Bruce. At one point, Brian tried to kill Rebecca again. When the Hulk saw this, he ended up fighting Brain alongside his son, Skaar. However, Brian fed on the Hulk's anger towards him and actually become stronger. But, it was only when the Hulk's lost love, Jarella, told him to remember his love for her that the tides of the battle turned against Brain. The Hulk instead started focusing on the positive emotions inspired by the rest of his allies and ended up defeating his "Hulk-like" monster father, Brian Banner. In the movie, Hulk, Brian Banner is renamed David Banner (a reference to the television series). However, in the credits, he is named "The Father." In addition, the film version of the Hulk's father attempted to replicate the Hulk's powers and eventually received Absorbing Man-like powers.

Abraham Erskine was a German biochemist and physicist who had spent much of his early life studying the human species. Horrified when he witnessed Adolf Hitler and Baron Zemo test a "death ray" on a human subject, he contacted the United States to get out of Nazi Germany. After the United States Army got him out of Germany (and faked his death), he takes up the alias "Joseph Reinstein." (To learn about the characters above, just click on their highlighted names.)

During his research, Erskine had developed a special diet and isometric exercise regime that he theorized would create a "super-soldier." However, the program was rejected by the U.S. government because it required a lifetime of adherence in order to produce the desired results. However, Abraham Erskine ended up becoming the first person to develop the "Super-Soldier Serum," as well as the Vita-Rays, designed to create an army of enhanced human beings for the United States' World War II efforts. This serum would eliminate the physical defects and limitations humans had.

Eventually, after the scrawny Steve Rogers was chosen to become a Super-Soldier, Dr. Erskine administered the Super-Soldier Serum which changed Rogers into the muscular Captain America. However, right after this, a Nazi agent named Heinz Kruger infiltrated the top-secret military base and assassinated Erskine; thus, eliminating the Super-Soldier Serum formula--Erskine had committed the formula to memory and had not not written it down anywhere. To date, nobody has ever been able to duplicate the Super Soldier Serum as successfully as Erskine was with Steve Rogers. Others have recreated powerful human transformation techniques similar to Erskine's (including Wilfred Nagel and William Burnside), but none have been as successful. As mentioned earlier, Erskine had developed a special diet and isometric exercise regime that he theorized would create a super-soldier. And even though the U.S. government rejected the theory, Erskine passed the research on through his family. In fact, his grandson applied the theory and used it as the basis for both a successful organic food business and the physical development of his own son Michael van Patrick. General Chester Philips was an advisor to President Roosevelt during World War II

General Phillips was one of the many army officers overseeing subject selection for Project: Rebirth. He takes personal interest in an 4-F army reject named Steve Rogers and ends up choosing him to become a part of the project. In particular, he admired Rogers patriotic spirit. Soon after, Phillips was a part of picking Rogers as the eventual Super-Soldier "Captain America." He and Abraham Erskine refused to allow General Maxfield Saunders to have Clinton McIntyre received the first full treatment. General Phillips even oversaw Rogers' initial training as well as some of his early missions. (To learn more about the above highlighted project and/or characters, just click on their names.)

When Saunders steals the serum and apparently kills McIntyre, Phillips has the body shipped away and Saunders arrested.)

Prior to Rogers receiving the serum, Phillips was aware that Saunders had stolen the Super Soldier Serum and administered it to McIntyre (now known as "Protocide") anyway. However in doing so, Protocide was apparently killed. After this, General Phillips Phillips shipped away the body of McIntyre, and dealt severely with the perpetrators through military channels.

During this military career, Phillips was a hard nosed commander who did not tolerate errors from those he was in charge of. After a long career, Phillips eventually retired from the military and lived to an old age.

Much later in his life, while in a rest home in Kentucky, Phillips and Captain America were both attacked by Lemurian assassins. Martin Soap suffers misfortune right from the beginning. Moments after his birth, the nurse drops him on his head. After his unwed teenage mother gave birth to him, she gave Martin up for adoption and left him to be raised at an orphanage. Here, Martin was treated cruelly by the other children and the adults alike. When couples would come looking for children to adopt they would laugh at Soap along with the other children viewing him as pathetic.

When Soap was ten years old he ran away from the orphanage. While he was out, Martin was picked up by a drunken police officer who only pulled over to vomit and saw Soap by coincidence. The detective then gave Soap a ride back to the orphanage. After meeting this police officer whom was kind to him, he decided he would like to be a police officer himself.

During his education, Martin met a high school bully who also wanted to be a police officer; a boy whom Martin stated had a talent for exploiting weakness. This finally convinced Martin to to be a police officer when he grew up, because he dreaded the thought that all police officers would be like this boy.

When Martin became an adult, he joined the NYPD. And despite being promoted to detective, Soap becomes known as a screw-up, describing himself as "the department's biggest loser." When the police department became pressured by Ma Gnucci to crack down on the Punisher, Soap was placed on the "Punisher Task Force," so the department could look like it was after the Punisher without really putting him in danger, as the Punisher is quite popular among most police officers. Soon afterward, Soap is partnered with Lieutenant Molly von Richthofen because she wasn't liked in the force either. The two worked well together. In fact, Soap eventually develops romantic feelings for Richthofen; however, she gently rebuffed him when she told him that she was not interested in men. After the Punisher's assault on Ma Gnucci compound, Soap and Richthofen are surprised when they run into the Punisher, but they let him get away in exchange for compromising pictures of the Mayor and the NYPD Commissioner. Using the pictures for blackmail, Soap becomes the new Police Commissioner and Molly retires to another country.

Later on, Soap is demoted back to a detective after he himself was blackmailed with pictures too. Distraught over the dead end his life had become, Soap decided to end his life; however, before he could do this, he is approached by the Punisher. The Punisher convinced Soap to not end his life and the detective agreed to become a mole for the Punisher. As a mole, Soap would supply the Punisher with information on criminals from the police database.

After some time, Soap is taken hostage by hired goons working for ruthless Daily Bugle reporter Chuck Self. But, the Punisher rescued Soap while also taking out Self and his thugs. (To learn about Self and/or the Bugle, just click on their highlighted names above.)

Soap frequently went to bars. However, one bartender named Kevin constantly ridiculed Soap when he came to his bar. Eventually, Soap hit his boiling point and snapped at Kevin one night. Pulling his gun out, Soap told Kevin what he thought of his constant ridicule while Kevin just cried. Kevin begged for his life pointing out also that Soap was a cop. Soap replied to Kevin by saying, "Yes. So I am," then started to walk out of the bar. On his way out, Kevin managed to choke out, "Where're yeh goin' Soap?" And Martin replied, "I'm going to do my job." Detective Soap, now full of intent and purpose, swore off drinking and vowed to return to the Punisher Task Force.

More recently, after grabbing Inskipp the snitch and breaking his nose--thus showing how he had come out of his shell and decided to be more forceful--Soap finally tracked down the Punisher. After shooting the Punisher (but not killing him due to his body armor), Soap lost his confidence once again believing that he may be a loser all his life. However, all this changed, when the Punisher echoed his earlier sentiment that "When things aren't getting any better, just go." Through tears, Soap's eyes glimmered with hope and he took the Punisher's advice and left. He quit the NYPD and moved to Los Angeles in search of a new and better life.

When first introduced to SHIELD Executive Director Nick Fury, Sitwell's new and eager-beaver attitude was met with initial mock (and occasionally real) frustration from Fury and second-in-command Dum Dum Dugan. However, soon afterward, Sitwell proved himself and earned his fellow agents' respect. (Click on the highlighted names above to learn about Fury and/or Dugan.)

At SHIELD, Sitwell was mentored by Fury himself and was occasionally appointed interim director when Fury was on solo missions in the field.

Later, Agent Sitwell was assigned to Stark Industries as liaison between SHIELD and Tony Stark's company--which designed and manufactured much of SHIELD's equipment. During this time, Sitwell confronted many costumed assassins and terrorists such as Spymaster (who shot Sitwell and put him in a coma for a time), the terrorist group AIM, directly saved CEO Tony Stark's life at one point, and even had a short-lived romance with Whitney Frost; however, she turned out to be the leader of the Maggia. Sometime later, Sitwell--like most of the SHIELD leadership at the time--was seemingly killed by a self-aware, renegade "Deltan" variety of SHIELD artificial-human "Life Model Decoys" (LMD). However, Sitwell later turned out to be alive after he was brainwashed by a faction of the terrorist organization HYDRA. The agent had been placed in suspended animation and was released as part of a plot against Fury. Fortunately, Sitwell was eventually deprogrammed. After some time, Agent Sitwell became SHIELD's top interrogator and successfully discovered the crime chain to link Latveria and Lucia von Bardas. The Destroyer has superhuman strength that may have no limits since it has never been measured, it can travel through the air by means of self-levitation, and can project bolts of varying energies including magnetic and an unknown energy so powerful that it can shatter any known substance including uru metal. The Destroyer can also produce flames that can reach intense levels of heat and it can also transmute, rearrange and alter matter and its densities in order to convert it to its different forms: solid, liquid and gas. Aside from its other abilities, the most powerful weapon in the Destroyer’s arsenal is its disintegrator beam. The disintegrator beam is fired when the Destroyer lowers its visor and the energy builds up and projects, outward, from the top of the visor. It has been said that this beam is able to annihilate anything.

Long ago, the alien race of beings called the Celestials conducted genetic experiments on humanity of the planet Earth. The gods that looked after Earth knew that when the Celestials would return to Earth, they would judge humanity as to whether they were worthy or not of life and would destroy Earth with found unworthy. Therefore, by the command of Odin, the Destroyer was created, by the finest craftsmen of Asgard, as a weapon to use against the mighty Celestials. (The Destroyer armor is made from an unknown metal found on Asgard and was enchanted by Odin to make that metal harder than uru--the metal Mjolnir is made of--or adamantium and almost totally indestructible.) Once the Destroyer was finished, Odin, Zeus, and all other leading Earth gods transferred a portion of their power into the construct which gave it superhuman strength and energy manipulating powers. Odin then had the Destroyer sealed within a temple within a plateau until the purpose it was designed for could be implemented. For many years the Destroyer remained lifeless until Loki destroyed the plateau and revealed the temple inside. Loki then led a hunter to the Destroyer in order to use the hunter’s life essence to animate the weapon and send it against his hated half-brother Thor. (Since the Destroyer is not a living entity, it is not affected by Odin’s magic that anyone unworthy can’t use it as with Thor’s hammer, and it can absorb the life essence of anyone. In addition, the Destroyer is not a suit of armor that can be physically worn or disassembled. A life force must be projected into the armor in order to animate it which leaves the possessor’s body in a catatonic state. The Destroyer is linked to the body of the individual inside which is why the person does not die due to lack of life force, but if the person’s essence is put back inside its body by a powerful spell directed at the person, the Destroyer will become inanimate once again. By the same token, if the person’s body is killed, the life force will leave the Destroyer and revert it back to its lifeless state. Normally, a person has to be close to the Destroyer and a willing participant to have their life essence transferred into it, but a person’s essence can also be transferred if that person is not mentally guarded for such a transfer--however, Odin or Loki can make the transferals over great distances due to their proficiency with magic. Also, the Destroyer was given its own intelligence but has been programmed to destroy, so when a life essence is absorbed into the armor, the Destroyer normally takes over and the person inside has no choice but to go along with its programming unless the will of the person is the same as the will of the Destroyer.) In Loki's case, both the hunter and the Destroyer wanted to destroy Thor; therefore, the hunter's consciousness acted as one with the Destroyer’s. Thor and the Destroyer battled within the temple; however, Thor emerged victorious when he used the hunter's body as a shield and tricked the Destroyer into transferring the life force of the hunter back into his body. In addition, Thor rescued the hunter, and destroyed the temple in order to bury the Destroyer under it. (Click on the highlighted names above to learn about the characters and/or object. Loki later transferred his own consciousness into the Destroyer. This has happened many times. In fact, on one occasion, Loki was able to use the life force of the goddess, Sif to animate the Destroyer. However, Loki was never able to be victorious in his evil schemes. Later, Thor finally gave the Destroyer to Galactus to act as his herald, but Loki eventually stole it back to use against Thor in another sinister plot by first using Balder and then Thor to animate the armor. However, while Thor’s essence animated the Destroyer, he was able to gain control of the Destroyer through tremendous will power. Thus, Odin, Thor, and Loki are the only individuals that have been able to suppress the Destroyer’s consciousness. (Click on the character's highlighted names above to learn more about them.)

Eventually, the Celestials did return to Earth ready to pass judgment, and that is when Odin thought the time had come for the Celestials to do battle with the Destroyer. Odin transferred all of the Asgardians (except Thor’s) life essences into himself and then into the armor causing it to grow to a tremendous size. However, even wielding the Odinsword, the Destroyer could not do much damage to the Celestials, and the alien race returned the attack with firing bolts of energy that ended up melting the Destroyer into slag. Afterward, the Celestials were then presented, by Gaea, with twelve humans that possessed incredible powers as an offering to illustrate the potential of humanity. These "Young Gods" were taken by the Celestials to be trained in the use of their powers, and the Earth was spared. Later, Loki sent the Destroyer’s melted form to a place where the Frost Giants would find it and tricked one of them into stepping on it. On impact, the Destroyer was immediately reverted to its normal form and began to attack the giants until it noticed the remains of Thor. At this time, Thor had been badly beaten and left in a horrible state after a battle with Jormungand (the Midgard serpent). In addition, Thor could not die because of a curse placed on him by Hela. The Destroyer thought that since Thor’s body could not be killed, his life force would be the perfect essence to animate it because none could threaten the body of Thor. However, upon taking in the life force of Thor, Thor once again was able to suppress the consciousness of the Destroyer and took control of the armor, invaded the realm of Hela, and forced Hela to lift her curse off Thor. Later, the Destroyer battled the Avengers. However, Thor showed up and banished the Destroyer to a remote place.

Later on, Thor sought out the Destroyer armor again in order to form a partnership that would set them, and others, against the Dark Gods. After Thor and his allies were victorious in their battle, Odin transferred the life essence inside the Destroyer back to its rightful owner leaving him with no memory of the incident. Margaret "Peggy" Carter is the daughter of Harrison and Amanda Carter, and the older sister of Sharon Carter. Peggy was idealistically dedicated to ending Nazi oppression and therefore joined the French Resistance while she was still a teenager. During he time with the Resistance, she proved to be a valiant and highly capable agent. She even served on several Resistance operations alongside Captain America. Peggy Carter and Captain America even fell in love with each other. However, they had to part when Captain America went on to other assignments. Later, Peggy was captured by the Gestapo and was being held captive in Paris when it was liberated by the Allies. However, a shell exploded near her during the battle and the shock gave her amnesia. This left Peggy with no memory of her and Captain America's relationship. However, soon after, Carter was found and identified by Resistance colleagues and sent home to her parents in Virginia.

Once back in Virginia, Peggy began to recover from her amnesia; however, she was suffering from mental and emotional distress, and kept calling for Captain America. And when the Daily Bugle newspaper reported the rumor that Captain America had apparently been killed just before the end of WWII, Peggy withdrew from the world, refusing to speak, dressing in mourning, and requiring hospitalization. In addition, believing that any additional shock, even a happy one, might make her incurably insane, her doctors did not tell her about the later "reappearance" of Captain America. In more recent years, Carter began treatments from the criminal Doctor Faustus. Captain America learned of Carter's whereabouts when he freed her and others from Faustus' clutches. Over time, Carter eventually regained her mental bearings, and despite still having feelings for Cap kept her romantic feelings for him to herself. However, the two remain close friends. The frail, dwarfish Arnim Zola was born in 1930’s Switzerland where he became the world’s leading biochemist. In his ancestral castle, Zola found some mysterious papers that were brought by his ancestors in the Crusades. (These documents originated from Deviants and contained secrets of genetic engineering that far surpassed even today’s level of technology.) Zola used the secrets to become one of the world’s first public genetic engineer. (To learn more about the Deviants, just click on their name above.)

Needing funds to continue his research, Zola presented his first invention--a device that would transfer someone’s essence to a cloned body--to Adolf Hitler, who agreed to become his patron. (This device, and partnership, allowed Hitler to actually survive World War II as the Hate-Monger). Arnim Zola also ended up using his invention on himself, not only allowing him to survive into modern times but to also replace his normally frail body with a stronger, android one. Arnim Zola's anroid body uses a ESP box in place of where the head would be which allows him to control his creations, emit powerful psionic blasts, animate inorganic material, or transfer Zola's consciousness to an available android body. Due to this, Zola is virtually immortal. In addition to Hitler and himself, Zola also found a patron in the Red Skull. Besides them, Zola has kept his existence a secret--performing experiments in a hidden fortress in the jungles of Central America. Later, Zola created some intelligent creations, including Man-Fish, Primus, and Doughboy. And at one point, Zola used Doughboy and Primus to capture Captain America and the woman Donna Maria Puentes, who he wished to use for genetic experimentation. However, he was overthrown, by Primus who had fallen in love with Donna Maria. Captain America used this distraction and battled Arnim Zola. Later on, Zola was able to create a cloned body of Captain America for the Red Skull. The Red Skull was able to use this cloned body to rejuvenate himself after his body died of old age.

At some point, however, Zola severed ties with the Red Skull to embark on his own agenda of experimentation and villainy. Although he prefers to work alone and in secret, Zola has been known to take on others as assistants. Also, when working on his own, it is usually for the pure fascination of genetic research, no matter how cruel or unusual his means. At one time, one of his assistants, who was named Edward Whelan, objected to Zola’s use of human test subjects and ended up becoming one of Zola's victims himself--becoming Vermin). One time, Zola assembled several wolf-related heroes and villains, including John Jameson (aka Man-Wolf). When Captain America was trying to track Jameson, he was briefly captured by Zola and transformed into a wolfman himself. As part of another experiment, Arnim Zola used the DNA of various people to create a group of "Proto-Husk" (clone) versions of the deceased to use as servants to help fund his genetic experiments (this group was known as the Corpse Corp). Some of the these Proto-Husks included Basilisk, Ben Parker, Bird-Man, Bucky, Cheetah, Cyclone, Egghead, Mirage, Porcupine, Red Raven, Thornn, and Vamp. However, when Vamp (Proto-Husk) stole the contents of a safe that Deadpool had intended on stealing himself, Deadpool followed her back to Arnim Zola’s base to get the contents back to use for barter to help his friend. This lead to a confrontation between the Corpse Corp and Deadpool, which ended with Deadpool killing the entire group. Later, Zola re-created Doughboy to be used as his vehicle of transportation. He used it when he tried to capture the then-ruler of Madripoor, the Viper. However, this plan brought Arnim Zola into conflict with Wolverine and Cable. The two heroes battled Primus and others of Zola's creation, but Zola an many of his creations were able to escape. Arnim Zola appears in both Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In the first film, Zola is in complete human form. However, in the second film, Zola appears more like the comic version with a computer face.
