After the explosion that grafted the tentacled harness to Dr. Octavius, he was misdiagnosed with brain damage. In actuality, his brain was creating new neuro-pathways so that he could possess the superhuman ability to telepathically control his tentacles at will. Originally, at his earliest stages, it was thought he could only control his tentacles while they were attached to him. However, when he became separated from his tentacles, he proved he was able to telepathically control them, even if they were a considerable distance. Over long periods of time, he mentally increased the range to which he was able to control them, recorded at over 900 miles in diameter.

Abilities
Doctor Octopus is the world's leading authority on nuclear radiation and its effects on human physiology. He is also a brilliant engineer and inventor.

Otto Octavius' father was a factory worker and was abusive and violent towards both Otto and his mother. Otto's mother insisted that Otto not become like his father and to put all his efforts into his education. It was hinted that Otto was a low-level telepathic mutant whose powers emerged at puberty. This may have been the reason why his father had an aneurysm one day when he was going to beat Otto. After his father died in an industrial accident, Otto continued to study physical science. Otto became a brilliant and respected nuclear physicist, inventor, and lecturer. He became the youngest person to serve on the National Board of Nuclear Science. He also designed a set of highly advanced mechanical arms to assist him with his research in atomic physics. The tentacled arms were resistant to radiation and were capable of great strength and highly precise movement. They were attached to a harness that fit around his body.

Later, during an accidental radiation leak that ended in an explosion, the tentacled apparatus became fused to Dr. Octavius' body. It was later revealed that the radiation (or possibly his own mutation) had mutated his brain so that he could control the movement of the arms with his thoughts. The tentacles have since been surgically removed from his body, but Octavius still retains the power to control them telepathically from a great distance. People thought that he suffered brain damage during the accident (although it was later suggested that what people thought was brain damage was acutally his mind rewiring itself to accommodate four extra limbs). From this point on, Octavius became the criminal known as Doctor Octopus.

Even though Dr. Octopus himself is a bit chubby and in poor physical shape, he has recently been able to improve upon his physique. He was also near-sighted to the extent that he was legally blind without the aid of his extremely thick glasses, but he no longer appears to suffer from that problem, presumably through the use of laser surgery. With his harness attached, he is physically far more than a match for Spider-Man. In fact, in his first battle with Spider-Man, he beat Spider-Man so badly that Spider-Man considered giving up his heroic career. Over the years, Dr. Octopus has become one of most recognizable members of Spider-Man's most dangerous enemies. During a battle with Spider-Man's then-partner/lover, Black Cat, Dr. Octopus almost killed the Black Cat and placed her in critical condition at the hospital. In response to this attack, Spider-Man beat Dr. Octopus within inches of his life. The trauma from the beating left Dr. Octopus with a phobia of Spider-Man and spiders in general for years. This phobia lasted until Spider-Man was forced to let Dr. Octopus beat him in combat to allow Dr. Octopus to break free of his fears and to be recruited to save New York City from an exploding nuclear reactor.(Note: Beware of Black Cat's bio page with her in both skin-tight and revealing costumes.)

Doctor Octopus was later murdered by the insane Peter Parker clone named Kaine. Octavius's student, Carolyn Trainer, took over the identity of Doctor Octopus until Octavius was resurrected by the group, the Hand. (Other people have taken on the name Dr. Octopus, but currently none of them are currently active.) After his resurrection, Octavius became involved in a plot involving using prosthetic limbs as mind-control devices, to create an army of minions. And most recently, Dr. Octopus resurfaced in the attempt to kidnap a Palestinian ambassador, in hopes of causing chaos for reasons unknown. His plot was thwarted by Spider-Man and his temporary sidekick the Kiwi Kid. Octavius is currently doing time in a penitentiary. Archangel has fully feathered wings that span 16' and have a very flexible skeletal structure. He can fly by flapping his wings, and can reach speeds of up to 150 mph. Though he generally flies below the height of clouds at 6,500 feet, Archangel can reach a height of 10,000 feet with little effort. His wings are strong enough to carry aloft at least 200 pounds in addition to his own body weight. Archangel's entire anatomy is adapted for flight, having hollow bones; a body virtually devoid of fat, granting him enhanced proportionate muscle strength; eyes that can withstand high-speed winds; enhanced eyesight enabling him to see at distances far greater than the average human; and a special respiratory membrane that extracts oxygen from the air at extreme velocities and altitudes. Following his secondary mutation, Archangel can heal fatal injuries and cure most known diseases at an accelerated speed by mixing his blood with that of the victims, so long as they have a compatible blood type.

After genetic alteration by Apocalypse, Archangel's wings became composed of a razor-sharp organic steel-like material, allowing him to use them as slashing weapons. He can also expel his feathers at great speed and with tremendous force, enabling them to pierce even steel. The feathers are tipped with a paralyzing chemical generated by his body (he is immune). He also briefly possessed the ability to convert his life-force into solid light to form a pair of energy wings.

Abilities
Archangel is a skilled combatant, especially in aerial hand-to-hand combat. He is also a talented businessman whose wealth ranks him in the lower part of the Fortune 500 list.

Warren Worthington III, attended a prestigious East Coast boarding school where he roomed with Cameron Hodge. One day, he realized that he had began sprouting wings from his shoulder blades, but he hid them under his clothes. Later on, a fire broke out in is dormitory and while escaping Warren discovered that his wings enabled him to fly. Realizing that he could fly, he put on a blond wig and a long nightshirt to disguise himself as an "angel" while saving the other students.

Soon after, Warren became the costumed crime-fighting "Avenging Angel" and attracted the attention of Professor Xavier. (As the Avenging Angel, Warren carried a gun loaded with knockout gas pellets: shown above as the third picture) Professor X recruited Warren into the X-Men where Warren became one of the founding members known as "Angel." (The fourth picture posted above his Angel's first costume as an X-Men.) After Jean Grey joined the X-Men, Warren was instantly attracted to her, but stopped his pursuit after realizing that Jean loved their teammate Cyclops. Later, Warren rekindled his old college flame with Candy Southern. (Note: As usually, beware of Jean Grey's bio pic and the picture with Cyclops and Emma Frost on Cyclops' bio page.)

Some time after that, Warren's father was killed by agents of the criminal named, Dazzler. After investigating, Warren was shocked to learn that the Dazzler was actually his uncle Burt. Burt had been using his brother's company as a cover for his crimes. In the battle between the Angel and the Dazzler, Warren dropped the Dazzler from a great height and presumed him dead, but Burt survived, and plotted to marry Warren's mother Kathryn in an effort to secure the family fortune. In addition, Burt had arranged for Kathryn to be secretly, gradually poisoned. Warren and the X-Men were able to stop Burt's plan, but it was too late to save Kathryn (Warren's mom).

After this, Warren left the X-Men and inherited his family fortune, now that his father and mother had died. He used a portion of fortune to fund a Los Angeles-based super-team, the Champions of Los Angeles. This is when Warren revealed to the general public that he was the "Angel," but he kept his connection with Xavier's school a secret. After the Champions disbanded, Warren rejoined the X-Men. However, he constantly clashed with Wolverine and soon after quit the team again. Angel was even invited to join the Avengers twice, but he declined both times. After going in and out of different teams and partnerships, Angel then reunited with the other original X-Men in forming X-Factor (an organization that posed as mutant hunters but secretly helped fellow mutants). Warren's old roommate/friend, Cameron Hodge, was employed as X-Factor's public relations manager. However, Hodge had come to hate mutants, and he secretly used X-Factor's resources to fuel anti-mutant sentiment. Soon after, Warren's status as X-Factor's secret financial backer was leaked to the media which caused great controversy. During a later attack, Angel's wings were damaged by an alien named, Harpoon. Warren was hospitalized and Hodge tricked the doctors into needlessly amputating Warren's wings. Warren became depressed because he had lost his wings, he had broken up with Candy, and he was still concerned about the controversy surrounding X-Factor. During this depressed state, Hodge sabotaged Warren's plane in an attempt to kill Warren and create the appearance of suicide.

Everyone thought Angel had died, but in actuality, he was rescued by the eternal mutant Apocalypse, who offered to restore Warren's wings. Desperate, Warren agreed, and through technological and genetic manipulation (which turned his skin blue), he was given razor-sharp metal wings. Because he had agreed to this, Warren became one of Apocalypse's Horseman known as Death (Angel is shown as Death in the fifth picture posted above). But, after being tricked into believing he had killed Iceman, Angel was eventually able to break Apocalypse's programming. (When blue-skinned, Warren used a holographic image inducer to grant him a normal appearance.)

Warren returned and hunted down Hodge who had kidnapped Candy. In the ensuing battle, Hodge killed Candy and Warren decapitated Hodge. Warren subsequently rejoined X-Factor as "Archangel" now, instead of "Angel." After X-Factor's members rejoined the X-Men, a mutual attraction between Warren and his teammate Psylocke developed. Following a savage attack by Sabretooth, Warren and Psylocke (who had since become lovers) left the X-Men for a short time to recuperate. During this recuperation time, Warren's metallic wings molted, revealing that his original feathered wings had grown back underneath. Later, Archangel returned to the X-Men as a reservist, his responsibilities as head of Worthington Industries taking precedence. Ending his relationship with Psylocke, Warren later committed himself to the X-Men full-time, becoming the team leader. (Note: Beware of a tight-fitting outfit on Psylocke's bio page.)

After some time, the X-Men were captured by the plant-like mutant Black Tom Cassidy. Cassidy was able to drain some of Archangel's life-force, and in response, Archangel's blue skin returned to its original color. Along with that, Warren underwent a secondary mutation that gave his blood healing properties. When the Xavier Institute student Husk uncovered corruption within Worthington Industries, she and Warren encountered the mutant werewolves the Dominant Species, whose leader, Maximus Lobo, claimed to have been the one who killed Warren's father. When Husk was severely injured by the werewolves, Warren used his newfound healing power to save her life, and the couple soon became romantically involved. (Note: Husk's picture is a butt shot. After Cyclops became co-headmaster of the Xavier Institute, he asked Warren to establish a high-profile charity to improve mutantkind's image. In response, Warren established "Wings over the World," a recreation center wherein visitors could put on artificial wings and fly by means of anti-gravity. Later on, Warren also established "Mutantes Sans Frontières," a global outreach organization that sends trained mutant volunteers to places where the X-Men have no official presence. Angel was going to make an appearance in X2: X-Men United as one of William Stryker's experiments, but it was cut out of the final movie. And obviously, he was the kid with the wings in X-Men: The Last Stand. After reading this bio, you have probably figured out that Angel was one of the original X-Men along with Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Jean Grey. But, I guess for the movie they didn't want to follow that storyline, so Angel is a lot younger than the others (except for Iceman). I hope they make another movie with Angel as more of a main character because after reading about him, he is a pretty awesome character.

Orginally, Mortimer Toynbe's mutant power was the sole ability of leaping. His leg muscles are incredibly strong, allowing him to deliver powerful kicks, to jump to great heights, and to rapidly move via jumping. Later, after gaining access to some of the Stranger's technology, he genetically altered himself to be able to secrete a poisonous resin, as well as gain minor super-strength and a malicious evil mind. He had later returned to his previous state, although he appeared able to gain control over a group of sentient carnivorous frogs that he used as spies. Currently, Toynbee has mutated further, and now possesses a tongue which can elongate like a whip as well as deliver venomous pheromones that sink through the skin directly into the bloodstream. These pheromones cause any exposed to them to have their will become subservient to the Toynbee's.

Despite his social awkwardness and seeming lack of intelligence early on, Toynbee proved capable of understanding and utilizing advanced, even alien, technology.

Mortimer Toynbee was born in England and was abandoned by his parents early in his childhood, therefore, he cannot remember them. He was placed in an orphanage where the other children bullied him because they considered him a freak due to his ugliness, his unusual physique, and his leaping ability. Mortimer was so traumatized by his loneliness and continual abuse that it affected his learning abilities; the teachers and administrators in the orphanage regarded him as mentally retarded, even though, in actuality, he was of normal intelligence. Mortimer became so desperate for affection that he developed a pathetically subservient personality, and would unquestioningly obey anyone he thought sincerely cared about him.

When he was an adult, Toynbee was recruited to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants by Magneto. Magneto gave Toynbee the alias "Toad" because of Toynbee's powers, appearance, and personality. The Toad took Magneto's verbal and physical abuse because Magneto was out to conquer the human race that had rejected Toad so much. As a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Toad met the Scarlet Witch and became infatuated with her, though she did not did not have the same feelings for him. After one of the many confrontations with the X-Men, Magneto and Toad were captured by the alien called the Stranger and imprisoned on the alien's distant world. Magneto was able to escape, but he left Toad behind; this is when Toad's attitude toward Magneto began to change. After being recaptured, Magneto escaped a second time and took Toad with him, but Toad's resentment increased with Magneto's continual bullying. Later, Toad took his revenge on Magneto by abandoning Magneto to die in an explosion that followed an encounter with the Avengers. Toad served a short prison term after an attack on the Avengers. He was later released, at which time he commissioned the criminal Arcade to construct a sort-of "Toad kingdom," complete with a series of deadly traps, in a seemingly deserted castle in upstate New York. Here, he planned to entrap everyone who he felt had abused him, placing them in the palace where they would be killed in the attempt to escape. His first victim was the X-Men’s Angel, but Toad had accidentally kidnapped the Thing too. Just as the two were about to escape, Arcade stepped in and demanded immediate payment for his services. Unable to pay, Toad began to panic and fear for his own life. Angel took pity on Toad and made an agreement to convert the castle into an amusement park, paying the debt in the process. This endeavor was a success until it was discovered that the castle's original owner was the villain, Victor von Doom (aka Doctor Doom). Doctor Doom sent a robot of himself and a security force to remove Toad and restore the structure to its original state. After this, Toynbee had decided to commit suicide, but his attempt was interrupted by Spider-Man. (To learn more about the characters above, just click on their names.)

Months later, Toad resurfaced again with new powers, a heightened intelligence, and a vicious mean streak. He tried to form his own Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (simply called "the Brotherhood). However, Toad's Brotherhood later fell apart and the members went their separate ways. Toad then was recruited by former teammate Blob to join a new version of the Brotherhood of Mutants. After that team, Toad joined yet another Brotherhood of Mutants, this time led by Mystique. (To learn about the above characters, just click on their names. During a time-traveling adventure, Mortimer discovered that, as an infant, he and thousands of other mutant babies were experimented upon. The experiments were to track the evolution of mutantkind. Ultimately in this time-traveling adventure, in a battle with the alien Stranger, Toad was wounded to the point of death, but an alien named Prosh healed him. This healing resulted in Toad having an altered appearance and strange new powers. Later, Toad was able to return to the present day.

Lately, Toynbee has appeared more clear-headed and reflective of his actions. He recently used his abilities to help another mutant in need. Since then, Toad has joined the band of mutant refugees called the 198. Kitty Pryde is a mutant with the ability to “phase” through solid matter by shifting her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. Kitty can phase her clothing along with herself, and through practice has learned to phase other objects and people without harm to them. For all intents and purposes, Kitty is intangible whilst phasing, however she is still vulnerable to psionic or mystical attacks. Certain forms of energy can also disrupt her phased state.

When Kitty phases through an object with an electrical system, the process disrupts the system's workings. This includes the electrical impulses found in the human brain. Kitty can phase part or all of her body through another living being without harm to herself, though the other being can be rendered unconscious as a result. Kitty also has the potential to kill another being by phasing them into a solid object and then releasing them, causing them to solidify whilst still within the object.

Kitty passes through objects at the same rate of speed at which she is moving before phasing. Since she is unable to breathe while phasing, she can only continuously phase through solid objects - as when she travels underground - as long as she can hold her breath. Kitty can keep her phased form at rest in relation to the rotation of the Earth upon its axis, thus allowing her to assume a ground speed of the length of a football field and a half every second. Kitty can also walk on air whilst phasing.

Kitty has trained herself to reflexively assume a phased state at any indication of danger, such as a loud noise like a gunshot, in order to protect herself.

Abilities
Kitty possesses moderate expertise of the martial arts of the Japanese ninja and samurai. Kitty demonstrated great knowledge of ninja methods of combat when Ogun mentally possessed her. With the possession over, Kitty forgot the knowledge of ninja techniques he gave her, but retained the knowledge of Oriental methods of combat Wolverine taught her.

Kitty is also a genius in the computer sciences, and is highly skilled in the design and use of computer hardware. She is a competent driver of automobiles, a skilled pilot of piston and jet engine aircraft, and a competent pilot of certain advanced interstellar vehicles. Kitty also undertook ballet and modern dance training, speaks fluent Japanese, Russian, and the royal and standard languages of the alien Shi'ar, and has moderate expertise in Gaelic, Hebrew, and German.

Katherine "Kitty" Pryde is a genius. When she was 13 years old, she was allowed to take college-level courses. She had a pretty normal life until she began suffering headaches which steadily increased in intensity over time. She didn't know that she made mutant abilities until she suffered her worst headache ever and went upstairs to her room. When the headache stopped, Kitty realized that she was now on the floor of her living room. She unknowingly used her power to phase through solid matter for the first time. She had passing through her bed and floor into the room below.

Later on, Professor Charles Xavier arrived at Kitty's home with three of the X-Men, one being Jean Grey. Jean telepathically coerced Kitty's parents into allowing her to join Xavier's school, and Kitty became the newest and youngest member of the X-Men. Kitty originally called herself "Sprite," but later adopted the codename "Ariel." As a member of the X-Men, she formed a close friendship with Storm, Illyana Rasputin, and a romantic friendship with her teammate (Illyana's brother) Piotr Rasputin (aka Colossus). Also, on an adventure in space, she befriended a small alien dragon-like creature she named Lockheed (pictured in the forth picture above). After a visit to her father, Kitty learned that he had become involved with the Japanese mafia named the Yakuza. She followed him to Japan where she was captured and put under the mental control of Ogun, a martial arts master who had once been the teacher of Wolverine (one of Kitty's former teammates). Using Kitty's body, Ogun attempted to kill Wolverine but failed. Wolverine then taught Kitty to become skillful enough in martial arts to combat Ogun. Together they managed to exorcise Ogun's spirit. During the course of this adventure, Kitty began calling herself "Shadowcat" (which is her most known character name). During a later attack, Kitty was was injured by an energy spear hurled by Harpoon. The enery spear affected her powers and was unable to regain her solidity. But, Kitty was saved by the combined efforts of Doctor Doom and his arch-rival, Reed Richards. However, now she could only maintain a solid form through concentration. After witnessing the apparent death of the X-Men, Kitty helped form the British-based super-team Excalibur. Soon after, Excalibur was approached by the clandestine organization known as Black Air for assistance on a mission to the island nation of Genosha. They were assigned a liaison in Pete Wisdom, an uncouth British mutant who regularly clashed with the outspoken Kitty. The pair eventually overcame their initial impressions of one another and fell in love. Wisdom even resigned from Black Air and joined Excalibur to be with Kitty. Later, Kitty was recruited by the international law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. to repair the computer system of their flying headquarters. Kitty discovered the problem was due to Ogun’s spirit having infiltrated the computer system, and with the aid of Wolverine, again, she managed to purge Ogun's presence. During this time, Kitty was attracted to a S.H.I.E.L.D. intern her own age, and this made her begin to doubt her relationship with Wisdom. Soon after, she broke off their relationship.

Kitty remained a member of Excalibur until it disbanded whereupon she rejoined the X-Men again. Soon after this, an incident in Genosha caused Kitty to develop a rebellious attitude. She cut her hair short, used a more ferocious combat technique, and began using one of Wolverine's broken bone claws in battle (shown in the first picture above).

When Colossus sacrificed his life to release a cure for the Legacy Virus, his body was supposedly cremated, and Kitty scattered the ashes over his Russian farmland home. Mourning the loss of her old friend, and trying to live a normal life, Kitty left the X-men. She enrolled in the Robert A. Heinlein School for Engineering and Astrophysics in Chicago on a full scholarship. She began working as a bartender for her neighbor at his establishment, the Belles of Hell. Kitty soon clashed with members of a anti-mutant student organization named "Purity." Kitty continued to battle against Purity after the organization attempted to frame her for the sabotage of a research experiment. Later, a student meeting was called to debate the banning of either Purity or mutants from campus. But, the discussions were cut short when mutant-hunting robotic Sentinels attacked. Kitty, with the help of former New Mutant Karma and Genoshan exchange student Shola Inkosi, was able to defeat the Sentinels. After his, Kitty rejoined the X-Men. Colossus was discovered to actually be alive, his body had secretly been stolen and resuscitated by Ord. Kitty found Peter shortly before the X-Men's final battle with Ord, after which Colossus too rejoined the X-Men. After many years apart, Kitty and Peter reignited their romance.

Kitty Pryde has been in all three X-Men movies, but only in the third one did she actually have a big role. In first movie, X-Men, she was the girl who phased through Professor X's door when Wolverine shows up in the Professor's office. Also, I believe in the deleted scenes on the DVD, Kitty is one of the students who talked to Rogue when she is in Storm's class. In X2: X-Men United, she phases through her bed and walls to escape William Stryker's forces in the X-Mansion. And of course, Kitty is in X-Men: The Last Stand where she acutally does some fighting. In the movie, Kitty has some type of romantic interest with Iceman, but in the Marvel Universe, she never had a relationship with Iceman. (In an alternate time line called the "Ultimate Universe," the two had a brief romance, so I'm guessing that is where the movie people drew that romance from.
